Nancy L. Tinker, age 87 of Rockford, died peacefully Saturday, December 15, 2018 at The Eden Center in Kalkaska, MI. Nancy was born August 4, 1931 the daughter of Basil and Eleanor Smith (Johnson). She graduated from Kalkaska High School in Kalkaska and eventually made Rockford, MI her hometown and for nearly 60 years loved life in Rockford. Many teachers, staff and children at Parkside Elementary will remember her as the small, grandmotherly “Playground Lady” who handed out “tooth boxes”, broke up skirmishes, and wiped away tears happily. Attending community and sporting events, playing Bingo with friends, traveling or volunteering time and being involved allowed Nancy the privilege of a great life with many, many friendships. Small in stature, yet strong in spirit and heart could best describe her time here on this earth. Her love of animals and the companionship she shared with them could not be outmatched. Surviving are her children; Janinne (Bruce) Alberts, Craig Tinker, Todd (Jennifer)Tinker; her sister, Marge (Arden) Jenkins; her cousin, Victor (Ann) Clement; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and her nieces and nephews. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Gene” Tinker; her father and mother, Basil & Eleanor Smith; and her grandson, Brent Tinker. The family will greet friends on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 12:00-2:00pm at Pederson Funeral Home, Rockford, MI. A memorial service will be celebrated following the visitation at 2:00pm at the Pederson Funeral Home. Private interment at Kalkaska Cemetery, Kalkaska, MI.
